Alsatian Red Plums

Fruit and wild-berry schnapps are traditionally drunk at the end of a meal. They must be served very cold to ice-cold in order to free the delicate aroma of the fruit and berry.

The glass may be chilled by swirling of few ice-cubes in it until the glass steams up. After emptying the ice, the schnapps is poured slowly, cooling down on contact with the glass. The slight bitterness of raspberry or the smoothness of the pear Williams can thus be appreciated. The cold enhances the character of each fruit or berry, and the smoothness of the aroma.

Some prefer to taste the eau-de-vie at room temperature, in a hand-warmed glass, this to maximise the qualities and the aromas of the eau-de-vie. The latest trend is to also use our schnapps in cocktails.

About the Producer

Over a century ago, in 1902, winegrowers in the village of Eguisheim decided to join forces to create one of the first cooperatives in Alsace, now they’re the ambassador of the Alsace terroir, producing the best wine, crémants and eaux-de-vie from the region to the world. The very original Wolfberger Eaux-de-Vie is done using one fruit in one of two different distilling methods. After fermentation or maceration, the brandy goes through distillation using copper stills. The first is the traditional “double pass” method, producing round flavours that are long on the palate. The second is the one-pass method on a column still, which gives sharper, lighter aromas. After aging, the Eaux-de-Vie from both methods is blended in order to get the best expression of the flower and the fruit. The majority of the fruit comes from their orchardists in Alsace terroir.

The Wolfberger Distillery continues Alsace’s long distilling tradition. True to its reputation, the winery has also put its know-how to work on innovation, creating white alcohols that mix originality and refinement, such as our two exclusive stars, Wolfberger la Fleur de Bière and Kéva, with beer and lemon aromas.
